Postgraduate Scholarship Nomination and Selection Information

Scholarships cover full tuition, fees, room and board, a $500 book award, and a $2,000 scholarship for research or study abroad. Nordenberg Leadership Scholars Program Nordenberg Scholars receive full tuition, an international experience, and assistance securing internships throughout college. Each year the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) awards multiple scholarships to students showing dedication to the pursuit of higher education in diverse areas of study including history, economics, law, political science, medicine, nursing, occupational and physical therapy, elementary and secondary education, chemistry, math, science and English.

Who is Eligible?

Student-athletes at an active NCAA member institution who:

• Are at least in their final season of NCAA athletics eligibility or will not be using any remaining athletics eligibility.
• Have an overall undergraduate minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.200 (based on a 4.000 scale) or its equivalent, including all undergraduate hours earned at all undergraduate institutions attended. The grade-point average may not include any graduate-level hours.
• Have performed with distinction as a member of the varsity team in the sport in which the student-athlete is being nominated.The degree of the student-athlete's athletics achievement will be weighed in conjunction with academic performance, institutional involvement and volunteer community service. Institutions should note participation in activities in which the student-athlete serves as an example to other students and demonstrates leadership qualities.
• Intend to continue academic work beyond the baccalaureate degree and enroll in a graduate degree program on a part- or full-time basis at an academically accredited graduate or degree-granting professional school. An academic professor of the institution in which the student-athlete is currently enrolled must address the capability of the student-athlete for graduate study.;
• Are outstanding citizens and excellent role models for the institution and intercollegiate athletics as a whole.

Additionally, an award recipient may not use more than one NCAA award for postgraduate studies. Foreign student-athletes are eligible to receive an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship.

How can I be nominated?

Student-athletes must be nominated by the institution's Faculty Athletics Representative (FAR) or a FAR designee (preferably an individual in academics).

The FAR or FAR designee is responsible for determining the student-athlete's eligibility to be nominated and for coordinating the completion and submission of the nomination.Each NCAA member institution may nominate no more than five student-athletes per gender, per season.The nomination and supporting information will be accepted only when it is submitted before the sport season's submission deadline.

Online Submission System - The FAR or FAR designee must use the NCAA ID and password to gain access to the online nomination submission system. Please see 'FAR Instructions' for more details.

• The FAR or FAR designee may save the nomination and complete it at a later time or submit via the online nomination system.
• Once the FAR or FAR designee selects to submit the nomination, the following takes place:
  1. The system generates a no-reply confirmation e-mail message to the FAR including a link so progress of completion of the other sections of the nomination may be monitored and viewed. FARs and student-athletes can also log in to determine if the student-athlete is an award finalist and recipient.
  2. The system generates no-reply e-mail messages to the student-athlete, the head coach, the athletics administrator and the academic professor. Each of these individuals must complete and submit their portion of the online nomination in order for the nomination to be considered complete. It is the responsibility of the FAR to monitor the nomination process to ensure all individuals have submitted their sections.
• The FAR or FAR designee requests the student-athlete's official transcript(s) be sent preferably by electronic mail to lthomas@ncaa.org or by mail to the NCAA national office. Faxed copies of transcripts will not be accepted.
• Updates of awards and honors earned by the student-athlete after the deadline and before final selections, as well as final statistics, should be e-mailed immediately to the NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship liaison at the NCAA national office. Please include the student-athlete's name, sport and institution in the message.
• When submitting a nomination for cross country, indoor track and field, or outdoor track and field, please remember that these are three separate sports. Separate nomination packets must be submitted for each sport. Awards for any of these sports may not be included on nominations for other sport(s).

When should I be nominated?

There are three nomination periods each academic year based on sport seasons. The seasonal sports breakdown is listed below. Emerging sports are in italics. Remember: cross country, indoor track and field, and outdoor track and field are separate sports.

FALL

• Men's: Cross Country, Football, Soccer and Water Polo
• Women's: Cross Country, Equestrian, Field Hockey,Rugby, Soccer and Volleyball

WINTER

• Men's: Basketball, Fencing, Gymnastics, Ice Hockey, Rifle, Skiing, Swimming and Diving, Indoor Track and Field and Wrestling

Two Ways for Award Recipients to Use Their NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship

It is understood that the recipient has completed intercollegiate eligibility and/or competition in the sport for which the NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship was received. The NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship liaison at the NCAA national office must be notified immediately if the award recipient's athletics eligibility status changes. If compliance with these requirements is not followed, the NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship may be forfeited. The NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship may not be used until all athletics competition has ceased.

Award recipients must be accepted into a graduate degree-granting program at an academically accredited graduate or professional school. The NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship funds are intended to be used only toward expenses associated with graduate courses that apply toward completion of the graduate degree program.

• Full-time enrollment. If the award recipient chooses to enroll as a full-time graduate student (as determined by the graduate institution), he or she must be accepted for matriculation into a graduate degree program of an academically accredited graduate or professional school within three years from the fall semester after selection. For example, an award recipient from the 2013-14 academic year has until August 31, 2017, to use the award. The full $7,500 will be distributed to the institution once the completed original certification of graduate school enrollment form has been received at the NCAA national office.
• Part-time enrollment. If an award recipient chooses to enroll as a part-time graduate student (as determined by the graduate institution), he or she must be accepted for matriculation into a graduate degree program of an academically accredited graduate or professional school within three years from the fall semester after selection. Half ($3,750) of the scholarship funds will be distributed to the institution at the onset of enrollment once the completed original certification of graduate school enrollment form has been received at the NCAA national office. The remaining half ($3,750) will be distributed when the second certification of graduate school enrollment form that indicates the award recipient has six (6) hours or fewer remaining to complete his or her graduate degree has been completed and received by the NCAA National Office. If the award recipient's enrollment status changes from part-time to full-time during the three years after the date of selection, the remaining $3,750 will be distributed immediately upon the NCAA National Office's receipt of a completed second certification of enrollment form indicating that the award recipient status has changed.

The NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship must be used to pay expenses of the student's postgraduate education to include such related activities as research and teaching; other expenses include, but are not limited to, tuition, fees, room and board (including off-campus housing), required course-related supplies, and books. NCAA Postgraduate Scholarships may be used at foreign universities.

If the student withdraws from the graduate degree program before the entire award has been used, the unused portion of the scholarship is to be refunded to the NCAA national office for return to the NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship fund.

If the student transfers to another academically accredited institution, he or she is entitled to use any funds remaining of the NCAA award at the institution or program to which the individual transfers, as long as the student enrolls in a graduate degree program of an academically accredited graduate or professional school. Upon certification of enrollment at the subsequent institution, the NCAA will issue the remaining funds received from the original institution from which the student transferred.

It is the award recipient's responsibility to keep the NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship liaison updated with current address and contact information.

SELECTION PROCESS

Nominations are initially reviewed by seven regional selection committees. See below for the regional breakdown. The regional selection committees forward finalists to the Postgraduate Scholarship Committee for its review. The Postgraduate Scholarship Committee selects 29 male awardees and five alternates and 29 female awardees and five alternates each sports season.

Region 1: Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island and Vermont.

Region 2: Delaware, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Region 3: District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia and West Virginia.

Region 4: Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin.

Region 5: Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma and South Dakota.

Region 6: Alabama, Arkansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee and Texas.

Region 7: Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.

Alternate award recipients are notified at the same time notification letters are sent to award recipients. When the NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship liaison is notified that an award recipient will not use his or her award, an alternate (in order) is notified an award is available for use.An NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship may not be used to pay student loans, it may be used toward postgraduate study at an academically accredited graduate or professional institution.

NOTIFICATION PROCESS

FARs and nominees may log into the online system to determine if the nominee is an award recipient after the final selection committee meeting. Please see the scholarship process calendar for selection meeting dates. FARs and nominees should use the link contained in the e-mails sent by the online system.

Ahmanson Veteran Scholarship Initiative

The Ahmanson Veteran Scholarship Initiative (AVSI) supports the young men and women returning in record numbers from Iraq and Afghanistan, whose abilities and experience make them ideal college student candidates. Recognizing that public colleges and universities are not the perfect fit for all students and that the transition from military life to student life can have its challenges, the AVSI is designed to provide returning veterans the support needed to attend and ultimately graduate from private institutions of higher learning. Graduate Merit Scholarships

The Education program at Mount Saint Mary's University offers departmental scholarships. These Scholarships are merit-based and competitive, and are awarded to new students at time of admissions. The faculty admission committee automatically considers all applicants for a scholarship opportunity. The amount of a scholarship varies depending on the promise and merit of a student's application.

Requirements:

• Enrolled in MSMU's Teacher Credential Program
• An employee of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles
• Eligible students apply each year and are selected by the faculty of the Teacher Credential Program

The William Randolph Hearst Endowed Scholarship Fund for Future Teachers

Available to undergraduate or graduate students in education. Students are jointly selected by the Chair of the Education Department and the Director of Financing. To be awarded for one to three students annually.

Requirements:

• Good academic standing
• Demonstrated financial need
• Commitment to working in public schools upon graduation.
• Must be U.S. Citizen

The Dr. and Mrs. F. Roman Young Endowed Scholarship

Requirements:

Enrolled in the Master of Science Program in Instructional Leadership

• Three years experience as a public school teacher or administrator
• Demonstrated financial need
• Commitment to teacher leadership in urban Los Angeles schools

Helen Reiman Wood Endowed Scholarship Fund

Requirements: Must be a graduate student in special education, preferably one who is interested in helping the developmentally disabled.

MSMU Tuition Reduction Program

A tuition discount of an amount specified by the University each year (35%) may be awarded to those graduate students who fulfill one of the following requirements:

• Members of Catholic religious communities, Catholic diocesan priests and Catholic deacons in good standing, upon verification from appropriate religious authority.
• Laypersons enrolled in graduate programs or in one of the MSMU Weekend, Evening, and Online College programs who are full-time (40 hours per week) employees of a Los Angeles Roman Catholic diocese or parish as listed in the current diocesan directory or in 'The Official Catholic Directory'; (P.J. Kennedy & Sons, pub.), upon written verification of employment. This employment must be the major source of income for the student.
• Laypersons who are chaplains in hospitals or prisons and who are full-time employees of a Los Angeles Roman Catholic diocese or a Los Angeles Roman Catholic institution (according to 'The Official Catholic Directory'); written verification of employment required.

The student must maintain a 3.0 cumulative grade point average in order to qualify for the wavier. Workshops and Continuing Education Units (CEUs) are not included in this waiver. It is the student's responsibility to complete and file a Tuition Discount Application form with the Business Office prior to registration. At each subsequent registration period, the student may verify employment by submitting a copy of their most current paycheck stub to the Business Office.
